CT General Assembly

  • Find your state legislators. Connecticut’s lawmaking group is called the Connecticut General Assembly, and it has two parts: the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House has 151 members, each representing one of the 151 districts, and the Senate has 36 members, with each representing one of the 36 districts. Both serve for two years and there are no limits on how many terms members can serve.
  • Follow the action in committees. There are 26 legislative committees focused on specific topics. They hold public hearings, listen to testimony, refine bills, and then send legislation to the full General Assembly for a final vote.
  • What’s on their schedule? This calendar is regularly updated with information about public hearings, committee meetings, and events. You can attend these in person or watch from home.
