Turn to 2-1-1 for Mortgage Foreclosure Resources

Several major banks and loan servicers have halted foreclosures in Connecticut and around the nation to investigate whether documents were improperly signed. The state Banking Department is not sure how many Connecticut households are affected, but some estimate it could affect thousands given that 40,000 mortgages are either 90 days past due or in foreclosure. Since the start of the foreclosure crisis several years ago, United Way 2-1-1 has received over 7,000 requests for services. 2-1-1 continues to assist residents who may be facing foreclosure or have questions about the latest crisis. Dial 2-1-1 or visit our e-Library for more information.

SNAP Enrollment Rising

New Census data reports that 8% of all Connecticut households, covering nearly 300,000 individuals, participate in the SNAP/food stamp program. The Census reports that in 2009, over 107,000 households in the state used SNAP benefits, a 44% increase from two years earlier. The 2-1-1 Navigator can help households learn if they might be eligible for SNAP. Click here for the 2-1-1 Navigator..
