Summer Youth Programs

Child PaintNeed assistance identifying and evaluating the right summer youth program for your child? 2-1-1 can help! Last year the United Way of Connecticut's 2-1-1 Child Care provided nearly 5,000 referrals for summer youth programs, including camps, statewide. The 2-1-1 Child Care database includes general recreation programs, as well as specialty camps to accommodate a wide variety of interests. 2-1-1 Referral Specialists can also refer callers to campership programs that may assist families with paying for the cost of summer camps. 


National Senior Health and Fitness Day

For 15 years, the last Wednesday of May is dedicated to supporting and celebrating wellness for older adults. The goal of the day is to encourage seniors to stay healthy through good nutrition, preventive care and exercise. Look through UWC's 2-1-1 e-library for in-depth information on many topics of interest to older adults.

 

May is National Mental Health Month
In 2007, 2-1-1 received 38,000 requests statewide for information on Counseling, Support Groups, and other mental health assistance. Mental Health Month was created more than 50 years ago to raise awareness about mental health conditions and the importance of mental wellness for all. 2-1-1 call specialists are on hand 24 hours a day 7 days a week to help. Search the 2-1-1 database for information. 2-1-1 is nationally certified in crisis intervention by the American Association of Suicidology.

World Hepatitis Day

The United Way of Connecticut is assisting the Department of Public Health in increasing the public's awareness of Viral Hepatitis by providing enhanced information and resources to Connecticut families and 2-1-1 staff. World Hepatitis Day was May 19. Information on Hepatitis A, B, And C can be found on the 2-1-1 website.
