Hurricane Preparedness

Peak hurricane season runs from mid-August to October in Connecticut. As we enter the heart of the season, it's important to remember that 2-1-1 is a source for preparedness information and can assist residents find the resources they need in the aftermath of a storm. To help spread the word, 2-1-1 is partnering with the Department of Public Health's Be Aware. Be Prepared hurricane preparedness campaign. 2-1-1's e-Library also has a new paper on hurricane and tornado preparedness.

   
New EMPS Website

The state's Emergency Mobile Psychiatric Service (EMPS) has a new website that lets visitors locate local EMPS providers, request presentations, download materials and connect to other resources that can help parents and caregivers whose children are experiencing a behavioral or emotional crisis. EMPS is a mobile crsis intervention service for children and adolescents that is accessed by calling
2-1-1. Visit the new site at www.empsct.org.

The new school year is fast approaching and 2-1-1 can connect families in need of basic school supplies and school clothing with the resources they need. Community agencies, town social service departments and churches often offer assistance. Click here to find resources in your town..



Text4Baby

Text4Baby is a new initiative that provides free text messages to pregnant women or those who have recently had a baby. The messages are meant to promote safe pregnancies and healthy babies. Women can sign up at www.text4baby.com. Text4Baby is a program of the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition.

 

The mission of the United Way of Connecticut is to help meet the needs of Connecticut residents by providing information, education and connection to services.
