Back to School!

It's time for children and youth to bpencilse heading back to school. United Way 2-1-1 call specialists can help families who need assistance obtaining basic school supplies and school clothing sort out the resources available. Often, town social service departments, community agencies, and churches have programs that can help. Click here for more information.

Help Me Grow to be Replicated Nationwide

Connecticut's Help Me Grow, a program of the Children's Trust Fund and part of the United Way of Connecticut's Child Development Infoline, is going to be used as a model for the national replication of the program. Help Me Grow connects families to community services to help children with developmental problems. Connecticut Children's Medical Center and The Commonwealth Fund have announced the plan to provide technical assistance to replicate Help Me Grow.

Energy Assistance Referrals
Calls to 2-1-1 for energy assistance information continue to climb. In July, 2-1-1 fielded over 2,500 requests for information. That's almost twice as many when compared with July, 2007. The state made applications for CEAP (Connecticut Energy Assistance Program) available on August 11, earlier than usual. Applications are processed through local Community Action Agencies, listed here. The state is also providing a rebate of up to $500 to people that upgrade to a more energy efficient furnace or boiler. Click here for more details.
